WHO ARE YOU?

I’m Mike Platania.

You might’ve read me in Richmond BizSense, a business journal in Richmond, Virginia where I cover commercial real estate and the food-and-beverage industry.

Before that I was writing about Real Madrid for SB Nation’s Managing Madrid, and recanting my adventures on bicycles at MikePlatania.com. I’ve also written on Medium a bit in recent years.

WHAT IS THIS PLACE?

The primary inspiration for Upon Further Review is John Green’s brilliant podcast-turned-book The Anthropocene Reviewed, in which he rates aspects of the human-centered planet on a five-star scale.

This is a blog where I take not deep dives, but more-than-shallow dives into anything. Some examples include my examinations of the Pony Express, Jackass Forever and one of the greatest songs ever written, This Modern Love by Bloc Party.

Accompanying these medium-depth-dives will be the occasional recipe and personal essay.
